Best friends + best friends

I thought about doing a round-up post of my favorite waterproof mascaras to make this blog post relevant to my fashion/ beauty content (1, 2), but that just seemed silly. Since I've given myself a little more freedom to write about more personal things here and my family, I think this is a fitting post.

My best friend moved to South Carolina yesterday. For the last 14 months, she and her son Mitchell have lived with us.

If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen photos of Jude with another little boy around his age. Jude and Mitchell were born three weeks apart, and when they were around five months old, Bee and Mitchell relocated from California to stay with us.

She has seen me through every major milestone in my adult life, and it was such a cool experience to be pregnant with our first children at the same time and to have boys so close in age.
beedeeBee truly is like a sister to me, and our sons have lived as brothers for most of their little lives. I am proud that she is carving out her own path in South Carolina and think it's wonderful for her to be closer to family, but Jude and I already miss them so much! Yesterday was a bittersweet day for Jude and me. We tried to be brave as they pulled down our street, but when we got inside, we both took a little time to cry. My heart was about burst out of my chest as Jude wandered around their empty room and bathroom going, "Jude go?" (He calls Mitchell Jude because Mitchell always greeted him with "Hey, Jude" which Jude would echo back). These last few days we have relished our time together:
last goodbye
baby best friendsLike brothers for fourteen months, friends for life. I loved that they experienced so many of their firsts together: first words, first steps, first swims...

I recognize how special and rare a strong friendship like this is between two adult women, and I am grateful to have Bee in my life, no matter how far apart we live.
