Color me Goodd
Things are moving along nicely with the new house. Between that and some impromptu trips (South Carolina last weekend, NYC and Indiana next week!), Indiana/Elsewhere has been a little neglected.
Anyway, I'm starting to allow myself to get excited about the house. It's hard to get excited about something when you're so dang scared that it will all fall through, but it really, really looks like it's all going to work out for us. We'll close in a month, and I can't wait to show y'all our new digs. I took your advice and prayerfully said "No, thanks" to a big 'ole fixer-upper. Instead, we'll be living in a solid house built in the 80's that's practically spitting distance from where my husband grew up. It will win no awards for interesting architecture, but it feels like the kind of home that I can live in for forever.
We have a lot of projects for the house to make it feel more like us and to feel a little more current, but I'm still really struggling with how to paint and furnish it. Wha, wha (that's me typing out mock whining. Did I get that right?). What a problem to have, huh? But honestly, Pinterest is making me so ragey lately. I'm unable to discern if I actually like something or if I'm being force fed it because it's on-trend. It's like Birkenstocks! Or overalls! Or French Macarons! Which, for the record, I think I actually do like each of those things. OR DO I?! See? I don't even know.
I keep Pinning images like this:
And this:
But, really, while I like them on screen, in the same way that I admire Carola's outfits, they're awesome and I wish that were my style, but they're just not me.
I'm having a hard time shopping for my house and thinking about decor choices, because I can't find a NAME for what I like. I think I want my home to say "People that laugh a lot live here". I want my kids to invite other kids over and I want their friends and our friends to feel comfortable there. I don't know my "personal style", but I do know that I want it to have little touches everywhere that make people smile. As much as I wish I could, I can't jive with the Kinfolk aesthetic. Shabby Chic isn't my thang, and I am decidedly not at all into rustic or industrial styles.
If my first house is any barometer, I think I'm into color. I should be pinning stuff like these:
The Hunted Interior has been a refreshing inspiration for me lately, and I'm crushing on nearly everything at Lulu and Georgia.
Since I write about what I want to write about over here, once we start tackling some of our decor and design DIY's and start considering our furnishings, I'll chronicle those projects, too. It's been hard documenting my outfits without my tripod and Chris working so late.
Not at all into decor? Okay, maybe I'll just shut this blog down and instead start documenting all the wings I've been eating lately. I can call it If You Liked It Then You Shoulda Put a Wing on It. Or IYLITYSPAWOI for short (pronounced i-YIL-tee-SPA-woy). Catchy! Say it out loud and you'll see.
[EDIT: never mind. This guy has that that blog niche on lockdown. Dat blog name! Can't beat it!]
