A grand morning with Pillsbury™ Grands
A post by Indiana . . .
I live for Saturdays. Specifically, Saturday morning breakfast with the kids. We set the kids' clocks an hour later than the weekdays, so I loll around until a glorious 9 a.m. Chris gets up and starts the coffee (black), eggs (scrambled), and bacon (crispy), and we eschew our usual Monday through Friday fare of cold cereal and yogurt for something hot and yummy. Our favorite special breakfast treat is Pillsbury™ Grands! Cinnamon Rolls, which the children love to help make.
Is there anything better than the smell of warm cinnamon rolls straight from the oven? I hope that when my kids recall these Saturday family breakfasts, that the smell of cinnamon rolls and their parents' coffee will be a major part of those memories. I also hope they remember how stinking cute they were, helping each other prepare the special breakfast for their family.
If we're connected on Instagram, you know that Jude, who just turned five last weekend, and Caroline, who just turned three, both enjoy preparing food. Lately Jude has been taking the executive chef role, directing Caroline in her kitchen duties, whereas Caroline has been a great little sous chef in training. It was adorable watching them make the Pillsbury™ Grands! Cinnamon Rolls on Saturday.
Jude sprayed a round pan with cooking spray and Caroline placed the five fist sized rolls, which were already portioned out, into the pan. Jude readjusted Caroline's roll placement and declared them ready for the oven. While we waited the tortuous 30 minutes until they were done and salivated with anticipation the entire time, we talked about our plans for the day and spent a sweet Saturday morning reconnecting with each other.
I no longer get fancy with the icing. I used to put it all in an icing gun and pump it into zigzags across the whole pan, but now I simply use a spatula and give each roll a generous plop of the gooey goodness. Once the rolls are iced and have started to cool, we divvy 'em up. Jude and Caroline split one, Chris and I each get our own, and we use all of our self will and save the other two for breakfast the next day.
Granted, we may have to re-evaluate this “one can plan” the next time we have Pillsbury™ Grands! Cinnamon Rolls, though, because (1) Jude asked if he could NOT split a roll with Caroline next time (“I'm five now, mom, so I would like to eat one without sharing,” he stated), and (2) I let Lucy have a strip off the outside of my roll on Saturday, and she will never again be content with a handful of dry cereal if everyone else has delicious cinnamon rolls on their plates. We should probably start getting two cans now, but I don't know if I'd trust Lucy to start helping prepare them for consumption. I mean, you saw her results in the marshmallow experiment! Would the rolls even make it to the oven?
We love our sweet Saturday breakfasts together and I just adore how easy and convenient Pillsbury™ Grands! Cinnamon Rolls are. They're totally worth always having a can... or two... handy in the fridge.
